Healing Africa Ministries provides training to persecuted Christians to help them use Biblical Soul Care to help them care for one another in the face of persecution and trauma. One of our current focus areas is Northern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and the Islamic State in West Africa target churches and villages where Christians live. The need is great in the Sahel Region of Africa, and we have the opportunity to partner with Rev. Daniel Dogo Awayi, the Healing Africa Ministries leader for West Africa, and a team traveling from the US to train leaders and help Christians impacted by trauma in Nigeria.
Team members traveling from the US are individually raising funds to cover the costs of transportation, food, and lodging while they are in Nigeria. However, we have additional opportunities to provide financial support to our partners in Northern Nigeria. These events would not be possible without your generosity!
OPPORTUNITY 1: FEEDING WIDOWS
Just like in Jesus’ day, widows in Northern Nigeria are extremely vulnerable and frequently go hungry. Many were widowed as the result of terrorist attacks and additionally carry this trauma with them. $11 feeds a widow for a month. We want to feed 3,000 widows. Here are three testimonies from widows who we served last March.
It all happened on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 when my husband and son returned from the farm. While praying in the evening, before bedtime, my son told his Dad to pray for him because he had a dream that he was dead. Just then about 11:00pm that night Boko Haram (people who hated Christians) came in groups, some on the fence while in the house. On hearing the noise my husband came out and the men dressed in long regalia seized them and began to torture them and then said to them, “we are Boko haram” we are here to kill you. After the torture one them pulled out the trigger and shot them dead, my husband on the forehead while my son on the ear. This incident took place in Potiskum, a big town in Yobe State, North Eastern Nigeria.

OPPORTUNITY 2: CHILDREN’S TRAUMA CARE
Children are deeply impacted by traumatic events and often lack the skills to express their trauma. A traumatic experience in childhood affects their ability to learn and to form satisfying relationships. Our goal is to work with 2,100 children impacted by trauma and 600 teachers of these children to help them cope with their trauma. Training 100 children and leaders costs $75.
